Project summary

This commercial project for the University of Miami Jewish Hillel Center involved the complex addition of a third story onto an existing two-story structure. The original building was deemed historically significant, requiring that the existing exterior façade be preserved in its entirety. While employed at another structural engineering firm, I served as the Project Manager and was deeply involved throughout the entire design and construction process. My responsibilities included overseeing the structural design coordination, managing consultant collaboration, and leading the construction administration effort from start to finish. The project demanded thoughtful engineering to ensure that the new third floor integrated seamlessly with the existing structural system without compromising the historical integrity of the building. I also managed site inspections and ensured compliance with local codes, historical preservation guidelines, and structural safety standards. This project represents a successful balance of modern expansion with respectful preservation—bringing new functionality while honoring the past.
