Project summary
This residential remodel presented a unique structural challenge: replicating an existing “pod-style” construction. The existing pods had a large column in the center to support the entire pod roof. Our task was to replicate these pods without that central column while integrating new architectural elements seamlessly into the original design. Each pod required careful structural coordination to maintain open, independent volumes without compromising stability. In addition to the home remodel, we designed the structure for a new 2,000 sq ft garage addition featuring a long-span roof system constructed from steel joists. The garage was structurally independent but attached to the main house, requiring precise load path management and connection detailing. The result was a clean, cohesive expansion that respected the original architecture while meeting modern performance and building code requirements
