Project summary

This residential remodel presented a unique structural challenge: replicating an existing “pod-style” construction. The existing pods had a large column in the center to support the entire pod roof. Our task was to replicate these pods without that central column while integrating new architectural elements seamlessly into the original design. Each pod required careful structural coordination to maintain open, independent volumes without compromising stability. In addition to the home remodel, we designed the structure for a new 2,000 sq ft garage addition featuring a long-span roof system constructed from steel joists. The garage was structurally independent but attached to the main house, requiring precise load path management and connection detailing. The result was a clean, cohesive expansion that respected the original architecture while meeting modern performance and building code requirements

Client testimonial
“Our renovation was anything but simple — the house had a unique pod-style layout and we wanted to expand without losing its character. CSD Engineering was incredible from start to finish. They not only respected the architectural vision but found smart structural solutions that made the design possible without adding bulky supports. The new garage structure is massive, and they handled it flawlessly. Their communication was clear, their team was responsive, and they gave us total confidence throughout the process.”
