Project summary

This project involved the transformation of an existing warehouse space to significantly increase its usable area — without altering the building envelope. The client’s goal was to maximize the square footage and overall functionality of the structure while maintaining its original footprint. To achieve this, CSD Engineering was brought on to develop a creative, cost-effective structural solution. Leveraging the available vertical clearance, our team designed a new steel-framed mezzanine level within the warehouse, effectively introducing a second floor to the space. This not only doubled the usable area but did so without requiring any major modifications to the building’s shell. Our design utilized the existing structural system where possible, strategically reinforcing select areas and enlarging foundation footings to support the new load demands. This allowed us to retain the integrity of the original structure while enhancing its capacity and functionality. Projects like this exemplify our passion for innovative design. We thrive in situations that require out-of-the-box thinking and creative problem-solving — especially when they turn underutilized spaces into highly efficient and valuable assets for our clients.
